Arbor Springs residents support Communities in Schools

Aroung 157 residents of Arbor Springs Plantation attended the community’s annual Christmas Party held at Kelly’s on the Green, the upscale restaurant at Arbor Springs Golf & Resort.

“Chef Tim Wade really went above and beyond to make this year’s party exceptional. Also, without Kay Lambert’s effort, energy and organizational skills, we wouldn’t have had such a nice Christmas party,” said Jim Nelan, an Arbor Springs resident. Helping Lambert were Jeanne Shough, Sherry Schmidt, Ed White and Colleen Mitchell.

Each year the Home Owner’s Association picks a charity to sponsor at its annual event. This year, the fundraiser for the holiday party was Communities in Schools (CIS). The mission of Communities in Schools of Coweta is to champion the connection of needed community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life. Programs offered to students in Coweta County are the mentor program for K-12; Performance Learning Center, which enables high school students an opportunity to graduate on time; CISCO classes for high school students; Sight for Students, which provides free eye exams and glasses for students in K-12; PASSPort, which empowers parents to assist their child in education; and Reading Is Fundamental, which provides free books to all Title I pre-K students three times a year.

“Over 900 students will benefit this year from the programs provided from community support,” said Mitchell, a CIS board of directors member and Arbor Springs Resident. Approximately $885 was raised at the Christmas party but residents were continuing to mail in their donations.

Arbor Springs Plantation and Arbors Springs Golf & Resort are located northeast of Newnan off U.S. Highway 29 north.
