The new McDonald’s rising at the intersection of Ga. Highways 85 and 16 will have to comply with Senoia’s existing sign ordinance.

On Monday night, company officials sought a variance that would allow the fast food giant to have a 120 sq.ft sign. The city’s sign ordinance only allows 64 sq.ft, and that’s what the City Council imposed on McDonald’s by turning down the variance.

City administrator Richard Ferry said the monument sign will only have the golden arches, along with Flash Food’s logo. The restaurant is set to open Dec.15.

In other news, progress continues on the city’s new downtown building that will house Redneck Gourmet and Maguire’s Irish Pub. The exterior is almost completely bricked, and interior work is continuing at a breakneck speed. Ferry said the restaurant and pub have already received calls about using the facilities during the holiday season and the building is still slated for a December opening.
