It won’t be long before many people will be enjoying the tastes of the holidays with family and friends. But for a special group of Fayette County residents, the joy of having a delicious holiday meal wouldn’t be possible without the support of a big-hearted community and an organization with a knack for turning a meal into a generous act of love.

For more than 10 years, Fayette Senior Services (FSS), with public support, has provided delicious and nutritionally balanced holiday meals to an increasing number of homebound senior citizens in Fayette County through its “Project Love” program.

As a special extended service of Fayette Senior Services Meals on Wheels weekly program, Project Love enables recipients to receive additional meals for days when the organization is closed for the holidays or inclement weather. The Fayette Senior Services staff and volunteer corps feel that it is an act of love to go the extra mile to bring a little comfort to the community’s senior citizens who may not otherwise be able to enjoy the simple pleasure of a holiday meal.

Fayette Senior Services is asking businesses and individuals to go the extra mile with them again this holiday season in support of Project Love. A donation of just $10 can provide the recipients of Project Love with two Thanksgiving holiday meals or two “snow day” meals. A $25 donation will provide recipients with a five-day frozen meal pack for Christmas week. There is no limit to the amount of meals you can sponsor.

Project Love donations can be made by downloading the donation form at www.fayss.org or by calling Fayette Senior Services at 770-461-0813.

Fayette Senior Services is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides life-enhancing programs and services to Fayette County residents, age 50 and older. The organization offers a variety of social, leisure, educational and wellness activities. FSS also offers specific programs that assist with improving quality of life and maintaining independence such as: Adult Day Services, Information and Referrals, Meals on Wheels, Life Enrichment Center, Transportation Services, In-Home Services and Case Management.

Fayette Senior Services will be transitioning its services from 390 Lee Street in Fayetteville to a new 22,000 square foot multipurpose facility at 4 Center Drive (near the new Fayette County Courthouse) in Fayetteville by late November 2007. The new facility will enable FSS to offer a wider variety of programs and events to meet the increasing needs of Fayette County’s age 50+ population.
