McIntosh fortunate to have current coaches

I feel compelled to respond to Gary Peters’ letter concerning the football coaching at MHS.

He feels the team needs a coaching upgrade after attending one game. Gary, where have you been the last few years?

The team on the field this year is the most competitive it’s been for as long as I can remember, and it’s been a while.

They won their first game, and took leads into the fourth quarter in two others.

The team did look flat Sept. 21. I have been told from a reliable source that performance is currently being addressed.

We have Coach Jones and his staff to thank for this. There is not a group of coaches who work harder and are more dedicated to this team on and off the field as this group of men. They are getting as much as possible out of these young men.

When Coach Jones held his first meeting he clearly stated the 11 best players would be on the field. He was hired to win and nothing less was acceptable.

The parents and the players knew this from the beginning. The days of every player on the team getting on the field are over. This is high school football and it’s the coach’s job to win.

The team lacks depth in some key positions and several players are required to play both ways. I can assure you the coaching staff would love to have the luxury to rotate some of these players.

In my opinion, MHS is fortunate to have a coaching staff of this caliber, and to write a letter suggesting a coaching change after attending one game is questionable, to say the least.
