It was an informative update for nearly 100 residents of Chattahoochee Hill Country Oct. 9 as board members of Chattahoochee Hill Country Alliance provided a look at the organization’s multi-faceted activities on behalf of the community at the group’s annual meeting.

Interim alliance executive director Steven Kopelman began the presentations with comments on the driving force that sets the Chatt Hills community apart in its desire to maintain abundant greenspace.

“There is a common bond in this unique place,” he said of the hill country. “We’ve all made a conscious choice to be here because of what this place is and what it isn’t.”

Board members making presentations spoke of the alliance’s advocacy and support of the recent move by Georgia Dept. of Transportation to make South Fulton Parkway a state highway, a move that should protect the “road of regional significance” from curb cuts and buffer reductions.

Other agenda topics included the alliance’s effort in establishing a four-county Regional Greenway Trails plan and the need for increased electric service that will undoubtedly come as the area experiences new growth. Additional board members provided a review and update on the activities of the community’s Design Review Board, a citizen planning board previously established by Fulton County Board of Commissioners to oversee zoning and development proposals within the hill country. Also noted was the need for additional membership within the alliance and a review of the organization’s finances.

The evening also included the alliance’s participation in community social events and the announcement that Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has placed Hutcheson Ferry Park on its 2008 Summer concert Series calendar.
