Robert Carroll Walter, 87, of Rensselaer, Ind. died Oct. 7, 2007 at the Rensselaer Care Center. He was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Jasper County, Ind. to Dora (McCurey) Walter and William Walter. He was a lifetime resident and a 1938 graduate of Rensselaer High School. He was a self employed farmer for 60 years and a retired clerk with the United States Postal Service in Rensselaer. He was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society. On March 26, 1951 in Rensselaer he married Tennis Lorene Deardurff who passed away April 13, 2007. He also was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by four sons, Robert (Gerry) Walter Jr. of Rensselaer, Ind., Thomas (Debbie) Walter of Walkerton, Ind., Harold (Jan) Walter, Martinsville, Ind., and Russell (Laury) Walter, Peachtree City, Ga.; a daughter, Mary Ann (Ron) Stockberger, Frankfort, Ind.; one sister, Lucille Downs, Kokomo, Ind.; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 3-8 p.m. with Rosary Services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Fr. Philip Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the St. Augustine Catholic Church of Rensselaer, the Rensselaer Care Center, the Knights of Columbus or the Gibault School. Jackson Funeral Home, Rensselaer, Ind., was in charge.
