The Fayette County Branch of the NAACP has begun planning for the Second Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Parade to be held Monday, Jan. 16, beginning at 10 a.m. in Fayetteville.

Last year’s first parade was an outstanding success with over 500 participants, in which many local churches and some civic groups participated. An excellent post-parade program, co sponsored by the Fayette County Board of Education was also held at F.A. Sams auditorium, which drew over one thousand spectators in the audience. A similar program is planned for 2006 with hopes of representation from every segment of Fayette Countyís communities.

This in the only public commemoration and celebration of Dr. King’s holiday that is held in Fayette County. The NAACP is hoping this yearís parade and holiday celebration will include all members of our community who believe in and support Dr. King’s legacy and dream of a “nation where all of God’s people can live in harmony.”

The Fayette County NAACP Branch is cordially inviting all local churches, civic groups, dance units, religious groups, and municipalities to be represented in the parade with marching units, floats, or corporate sponsorship of this event. They are also seeking volunteers to assist with the planning and execution of parade.
