Getting to know ...

• Whitewater softball player Tess Echols (sr.)

• Significant accomplishments: Verbally committed to play softball at Georgia. As a freshman in 2004, was the first softball player in Whitewater history to be named to both all-county and all-region teams. First four-year starter in softball in school history. Has lettered in four different sports: softball, basketball, track and golf. Lettered in high academics (a 93 or above in all classes) freshman year, and has been on the honor roll ever since.

• Making a comeback: Last year, in the season-opening “Up the Creek” tournament, Echols tore the anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and meniscus in her right knee after colliding with teammate Ashley Schwab. After diligently rehabbing her knee for eight months, it’s now 100 percent recovered. “I’ve worked really hard to get back to where I’m at. I’ve worked hard to get better and get stronger to go to a D-I school.”

Future: Play softball at Georgia and major in communications, specifically broadcasting.
Echols narrowed down her school choices to Georgia, Georgia Tech and North Carolina State. Why Georgia: “Georgia fits my academic needs the best of all the schools I considered. It has one of the best broadcasting programs in the nation. It also has one of the best softball teams in the nation, and is close to home.”
