Teams pick up some wins in region tournament

McIntosh defeated Creekside 18-0 in three innings to open the region 2-AAAA tournament. The Lady Chiefs scored all 18 of their runs in the first inning. Jessica Conaway went 3-for-3 with five RBIs, Holly Houghton went 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs and Amber Shaw went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Others driving in runs for McIntosh in the win were Nicole Fox, Ariel Shaw, Aimee McKibbin and Kara Wright.

Linsey Hearn got the win, striking out six batters and allowing only one hit.

In the second game, McIntosh faced Fayette County and won 3-0. Holly Houghton went 2-for-3 at the plate and all three runs scored on passed balls.
Morgann Kidd pitched a complete game shutout, allowing no hits and striking out 18 batters.

Fayette County advanced to the game against McIntosh by defeating Woodward Academy 2-0.
McIntosh took on Starr’s Mill last night after the paper went to press. The winner of that game was scheduled to meet Northgate at 7 p.m.

Starr’s Mill advanced to the game with McIntosh by defeating Westlake 15-0 and Whitewater 2-1. Jamie Saunders drove in Whitewater’s only run in the loss. The Lady Wildcats left six runners on base and four in scoring position.

Prior to their game with Starr’s Mill, Whitewater, ranked sixth in the latest GaSports.com/GACA Coaches poll, beat Banneker 17-0 in three innings. Megan Gentry went 2-for-2 at the plate with five RBIs, while Kaitlyn Johnson, Hayden Bartlett and Audrey Trammell all had two RBIs. Pitcher Alysa Glaze had five strikeouts and Erica Bell added two strikeouts.

Whitewater was scheduled to face Woodward Academy yesterday after the paper went to press.
