Political forum season is underwayMon, 10/08/2007 - 8:20am
By: Ben Nelms
The political season is underway across south Fulton with a total of 40 candidates vying for mayoral and city council seats in Palmetto, Union City, Chattahoochee Hill Country and Fairburn. Nearly all the Palmetto candidates for mayor and council attended a meet-and-greet session Oct. 2 at Palmetto Elementary School. Candidates made brief statements but mainly met with individual residents, answering questions and providing information specific to their races. One week earlier in Union City, a “meet the candidates” session was held at the county’s Stonewall Tell Annex. Three of the seven council candidates attended. Candidates and several residents took the podium, expressing views on a variety of community-related topics, including a discussion on the ramifications of the current attempt by Georgia Dept. of Corrections to re-open the J.C. Larmore Probation Detention Center. Coming Sunday, Oct. 21 beginning at 4 p.m., candidates for the three city council seats in Fairburn will attend a meet the candidates at the Southside Theater Guild, located at 20 W. Campbellton Street. The city of Chattahoochee Hill Country will hold a candidates forum for mayoral and city council candidates Oct. 13 from 2-5 p.m. at Foxhall Farms, located at 8000 Capps Ferry Road, Douglasville. The event is sponsored by Chatt Hills Organizing Committee and hosted by Chattahoochee Hill Country Alliance. Information on the November election can be obtained at www.chatthills.org To locate Foxhall Farms follow South Fulton Parkway West toward Douglasville, past Campbellton-Redwine Road and cross over the Chattahoochee River. Foxhall Farms is immediately on the right. For more information, please contact Nancey Green Leigh at (770) 468-8467 or at ngleigh@bellsouth.net login to post comments |
