Promise place 5k run/walk raises money for victims of violence

Promise Place, the council on domestic violence that serves Fayette County as well as Pike, Upson and Spalding counties will hold their 3rd annual 5K run/walk tonight at 7 p.m. Proceeds from this event will raise money for the new emergency shelter that opened in Fayette County in May, 2007. The race will start and end at Partner's Pizza on Ga. Highway 54 in Peachtree City. Participants will recieve a T-shirt and enjoy free pizza, soft drinks and a family fun evening of games and entertainment on the lawn. Registration is $25. Applications can be picked up at area Partner's Pizza restaurants in Peachtree City, Fayetteville and Tyrone as well as all Fayette County World Gym locations.

As a nonprofit organization, Promise Place serves over 1,200 domestic violence victims each year by providing shelter, counseling, help through the legal process, transportation, food, clothing and assistance helping victims get back on their feet after leaving a dangerous situation. Also, Promise Place reaches 2000 ninth grade students in the Fayette County schools system with their Teen Dating Violence program which teaches teens about the red flags of dating.
