Peachtree City employees are curbing their vehicle use in light of an impending gas delivery problem throughout the state.

Meanwhile, Mayor Steve Brown is encouraging citizens to use their electric-powered golf carts to go anywhere necessary. He used his golf cart to pick up his kids from school and do grocery shopping Wednesday afternoon.

The citys gas tanks can only hold a two-week supply, and the citys gas supplier has already informed officials that the next delivery will be short of the citys usual delivery, Brown said.

Many public works vehicles were called in and a five-gallon limit was placed on all city vehicles with the exception of police units, Brown said.

The main worry for the city is making sure theres enough fuel to keep police cars on the road, Brown said. It helps that diesel gas hasnt seemed to be affected by the problems from Hurricane Katrina, as diesel gas fuels the citys fleet of fire trucks, he added.

We are in very much a conservation mode, Brown said.

The citys supplier said it will try and make arrangements to provide enough gas for local governments, Brown added.

Using golf carts instead of autos wont just help conserve gas, Brown said. It also will help save money due to rising gas prices at the pumps, he added.

Brown said he hoped the state attorney generals office was watching out for possible price gouging cases.
