Local government employees join together for service project

Selected employees from Fayette County, City of Fayetteville, City of Peachtree City, City of Union City, City of Douglasville, City of Smyrna, City of Fairburn and the City of Villa Rica recently attended a Management Development Training Program which is part of the Atlanta Regional Commission and University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government.

The local government students had to complete a Service Learning Project in order to finish their training program.

They chose Noah’s Ark, a home for abused, unwanted, and orphaned children and animals. It is located on 250 acres in Locust Grove.

A part of the center’s mission is “to provide a home for abused, unwanted, and orphaned children and animals and to provide awareness through their rehab/education programs which emphasize that all living things have value no matter how small or seemingly insignificant.”

The students’ Service Learning Project involved construction of six picnic tables for the center.

On a recent Tuesday, the students presented the six picnic tables to the Director of Noah’s Ark, Jama Hedgecoth. She noted there are never enough picnic tables to accommodate all the visitors at Noah’s Ark each week and she was very happy to receive them.
