The Rev. Michael T. Fry has been appointed rector at All Saints Anglican Church in Peachtree City, the first priest to serve in the position since the church was formed seven months ago under the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA). Fry most recently served as rector at Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church in Fresno, Calif., a position he had held since 2001. Previously, he had been an associate priest at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in Fort Worth, Texas and a vicar at two other churches in Texas. All Saints’ Senior Warden David Wardell said of Fry’s appointment:” We had all hoped for that “wow” effect when searching for a priest, and we found it in Father Michael. He and his family are the whole package. We truly feel he was called to us, as we are so excited and thankful, with all of the pieces coming together as we needed and God provided.” Fry has worked extensively in Christian youth programs. “Youth are not just the future of the church,” he said. “They are the church. Numerous studies have shown that if a person does not come to Christ before the age of 20, the odds of them ever doing so are greatly diminished. As a pastor it is my responsibility to see that a quality youth program is in place.” A native of Gross Pointe, Mich., the 44 year-old Fry and his wife Elizabeth have four children, Jonathan, age 13, Madeline age 11, Andrew and William, both age 7. After graduating with a B.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1984, Fry obtained an M.A.degree in theology from Oxford University in England. He earned a master of divinity from Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry in Ambridge, Penn. in 1994. Fry will begin leading services in early November. Although he is new to CANA, an orthodox missionary outreach of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, Fry has said that he is well aware of its mission and has admired the leadership of the church of Nigeria in standing up for traditional biblical teaching. All Saints affiliated with CANA shortly after its start up. Previously, in the absence of a permanent rector, All Saints has relied on visiting priests for all of its Sunday services. The 250-member parish meets at 303 Kelly Drive, Peachtree City. login to post comments |
