The true test of any team thinking about the playoffs is how it recovers following a loss.

Last week, Whitewater lost a heartbreaker to Fayette County in the teams' Region 2-AAAA opener.

Whitewater bounced back in a big way Friday, coming from behind to defeat then-sixth-ranked, and previously undefeated, Creekside 10-7.

"It's a big win for us," Whitewater coach Amos McCreary said. "We weren't perfect, but we'll take it."

Whitewater trailed Creekside 7-3 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats' David Byrd took the ball on a quarterback sneak and scored from 1 yard out for the winning touchdown.

Byrd's run, which capped a 16-play, 57-yard drive, was Whitewater's first offensive touchdown of the season.

The Wildcats (2-2, 1-1 region) held on for the win over Creekside thanks to another stout performance from their defense. Cornerback Ian Parsons came up with two big plays late, intercepting two passes in the fourth quarter.

A combination of Whitewater's defense, which held Creekside to 100 yards of total offense, and its running game -- it ran for 202 yards -- put the Wildcats over the top.

Creekside took the game's first lead, returning an interception 25 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.

J.C. Jennings' 44-yard field goal later in the quarter cut Creekside's lead to 7-3.
