Rock legend Peter Frampton will close out the 2007 Lexus of South Atlanta Summer Concert Series at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater September 21-22 at 8 p.m. Frampton was one of the biggest arena rock stars of the '70s. The twice Grammy-nominated musician emerged onto the rock scene in the late ‘60s and has written and recorded dozens of albums with David Bowie, Ringo Starr, Journey and Lynyrd Skynyrd among others. Frampton was named “The Face of 1968” by the UK press and “Artist of the Year” by Rolling Stone Magazine in 1976. Born in Beckenham, England, Frampton first became interested in music as a seven year old, when he discovered his grandmother’s banjolele (a banjo-shaped ukulele) in the attic. Teaching himself to play, he became near obsessed, and upon receiving a guitar from his parents, mastered that as well. By the age of 10, Frampton was playing in a band called The Little Ravens, and by age 11, he was playing with a band called The Trubeats before playing with a band called The Preachers produced and managed by Bill Wyman, of the Rolling Stones. By 16, Frampton had been recruited to be the lead guitarist/singer in The Herd, scoring a handful of British teenybopper hits. In 1969, Frampton quit The Herd to launch the earthier, blues-based Humble Pie with Steve Marriott. Frampton was still in his early 20s when he launched his solo career. In 1976, Frampton’s album, “Frampton Comes Alive!” became a smash hit, establishing Frampton as a superstar. The album spent 17 weeks at the top of the U.S. charts, becoming the biggest selling live rock album up until that time. It also spawned a trio of hits in “Show Me The Way,” “Do You Feel Like We Do” and the ballad “Baby, I Love Your Way.” In 2006, Frampton released “Fingerprints,” a Grammy award winning album, and he is currently touring the United States and Canada. Frampton has appeared in television shows such as “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy” and “The Colbert Report,” all with particular mentions of his "talking guitar" effect he uses in live shows. In addition, he served as technical advisor for Cameron Crowe’s rock-themed hit film “Almost Famous,” in which he also had a cameo as Humble Pie’s road manager.
