Fayette County Public Library’s final book sale will take place this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds of the sale benefit the library’s numerous programs. The popular and much anticipated book sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will be held in the main meeting room at the Fayette County Public Library, 1821 Heritage Park Way, Fayetteville. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

The book sale is run entirely with volunteer workers, including co-chair Elizabeth Grindrod who sees to the sorting, cataloguing, and pricing, paperbacks generally sell for $.50, while hardback books range from $1-$5, as well as the storing of the books between book sales. A core group of seven to ten people such as Jane and Phil Anderson, Roy Tucker and Sig Hall donate time and trucks for hauling. A corporate sponsor, Dollarwise Mini Storage, houses the books at no charge.

The three annual book sales are usually in February, May and October of each year. In 2006, the total raised was $23,400. Overall, since 1998, the book sales have raised approximately $135,000 to benefit the library programs, which include Baby Story Time, children’s craft programs, the hosting of well known authors, as well as the purchase of books, videos, CDs and computers.
