‘Project of Love’ kicks off next weekThu, 09/20/2007 - 3:10pm

With the holidays just around the corner, it won’t be long before most people will be enjoying the tastes of the season with family and friends. But for a special group of Fayette County residents, the joy of having a delicious holiday meal wouldn’t be possible without the support of a community with a big heart and an organization with a knack for turning a meal into a generous act of love. Fayette Senior Services (FSS) kicks off its annual Meals on Wheels “Project Love” Holiday Benefit Drive at their exhibit at the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce Business Expo at New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville on September 25. For more than ten years Project Love has provided delicious and nutritionally balanced holiday meals to an increasing number of homebound senior citizens in Fayette County. Executive Director, Andy Carden, explains why Project Love is so important in the community. “While Fayette Senior Services’ Meals on Wheels weekly program serves a nutritious lunch to more than 150 homebound seniors in Fayette County, we are not required to provide meals to our clients during the holidays or the days the agency is closed. We feel it is an act of love to go the extra mile to bring a little extra comfort to our community’s senior citizens during the holidays.” A donation of just $10 can provide the recipients of Project Love with two Thanksgiving holiday meals or two “snow day” meals (for days when the agency may be closed due to inclement weather). A $25 donation will provide recipients with a five-day frozen meal pack for Christmas week. There is no limit to the amount of meals you can sponsor. Business Expo attendees are encouraged to stop by Fayette Senior Services’ booth number 206 for the opportunity to support Project Love and a chance to win one of several door prizes. The organization will also shine a spotlight on its new multipurpose building that will enable FSS to offer a wider variety of programs to meet the increased need in the community. FSS hopes to start transitioning its services from 390 Lee Street to the new 22,000 square foot multipurpose facility at 4 Center Drive (near the new Fayette County Courthouse) in Fayetteville by mid to late November 2007. Project Love donations can also be made by downloading the donation form at www.fayss.org or by calling Fayette Senior Services at 770-461-0813. login to post comments |
