It took a lot longer than expected, but the Sandy Creek Patriots picked up their first win of the season Friday, 30-0 over the Franklin County Lions at the Battlefield in Tyrone.

It was the most complete game Creek (1-2) has played this season; its defense was stout once again, and its offense broke out in a big way, scoring three touchdowns in the second half.

Creek led only 3-0 at halftime.

Then came the second half, in which Creek scored on three runs.

Josh Williams scored on a 28-yard run, and Ragion Neal scored on 8- and 57-yard runs.

Safety Russell Bonner added to Creek’s lead late, returning an interception 60 yards for a touchdown. It was Bonner’s second interception of the game.

Creek held the edge in total yards, 240 to 125, thanks to its defense, led by Bonner, linebacker Matt Solomon (a team-high 10 total tackles) and defensive end Jeremy Holt (nine total tackles).
