Fast work by employees and Fairburn Police Thursday landed two men in jail for aggravated assault and robbery.

Donald Jones, 46, of Riverdale, and 55 year-old Larry Paris, of College Park, were charged with the offenses after robbing Quatros Caminos grocery store on West Broad Street, according to Det. Charles Israel.

The men entered the store at approximately 3:30 p.m. and proceeded to a counter at the rear of the store where phone cards are sold. One of the men distracted the clerk while the other crawled behind the counter, snatching an undetermined amount of cash he found there, Israel said.

The clerk realized what was happening, grabbing one of the men and yelling for help, Israel said. The man hit her while struggling to get away, he said. The clerk’s call for help alerted other employees, who began chasing the men as they fled the store. Employees caught up with the men in the parking lot where a struggle ensued and most of the money was dropped, said Israel.

Fairburn Police arrived as the men left and were given a description of the white Ford Explorer that Paris and Jones used to get away. The men were apprehended by police less than a block away, said Israel.
