Police from Union City, Palmetto and Fairburn and agents from Tri-Cities Narcotics Task Force conducted license safety checks recently in locations in the three cities that resulted in 14 arrests for suspended licenses and marijuana possession and citations for other violations.

Fairburn Det. Dave Bedford said the officers set up check points from mid-morning until 3 p.m. each day. Fairburn’s check points included Plantation Road and Harris Road and at Clay Street and Bay Street. Officers also set up road checks on Oakley Road in Union City and along Carlton Road and later at Ga. Highway 154 in Palmetto. Bedford said teams included approximately five officers in each location during the three day road check.

In all, the license safety checks resulted in 14 arrests, including eight for driving on a suspended license, five on charges of possession of marijuana less than one ounce and one arrest for driving with no license. Citations were also issued for other driving infractions and expired tags.

“You’d be surprised how the public generally appreciates this kind of thing,” Bedford said. “A number of the people going through the check points said they were glad to see us out there.”
