The Whitewater Wildcats struck early in their game against Fayette County and eventually built a 10-0 lead that lasted into the fourth quarter, but the Tigers bounced back with two fourth quarter touchdowns and won the game 14-10.

Whitewater’s Thomas Frierson returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and J.C. Jennings kicked a 42 yard field goal early in the third quarter to give the Wildcats a 10-0 lead. In the fourth quarter, Fayette’s Tim Pettaway scrambled 34 yards for a touchdown.

With just over five minutes to go, Fayette County recovered a Whitewater fumble and went on their game-winning drive. Matt Daniels scored his sixth touchdown of the season on a gutsy fourth down call from head coach Tommy Webb.

“We were not going to play for a tie” Webb said, adding that there was no hesitation on making the call.

Darrin Fields recovered a Whitewater fumble on their next drive, sealing the Tigers win.

Daniels had 98 yards rushing for Fayette County, while quarterback Brandon Boykin had 100 yards rushing. Daniels, Evan Reid and Devontae Partridge each had eight total tackles. Shemar Fletcher caused a fumble and also recovered a fumble.

Whitewater was held to just 54 yards of offense. Their defense was led by 16 tackles from Ryan Hidalgo, 12 tackles from Kevin Fleming and 10 from Zach Mann.
