The Whitewater Lady Wildcats started the week off with a bang Tuesday, pounding the Banneker Lady Trojans 13-0 in five innings.

Whitewater scored five runs each in the first and second innings and three in the third to bring the mercy rule into effect and put away the overmatched Lady Trojans.

Whitewater's Jamie Saunders stood out at the plate, going 3-for-3 with five RBI and a three-run home run, the third ever hit out at Wildcat Park in Fayetteville and the second she hit in her home park.

Saunders also was effective with her arm, striking out six and allowing no walks and one hit in three innings in a rare start.

Other players who excelled for Whitewater were Tess Echols (2-for-3, two RBI), McKenzie Woody (2-for-4) and Ashley Schwab (2-for-3).

Freshman Alysa Glaze was exceptional in relief of Saunders in the pitcher's circle; Glaze struck out all six batters she faced in the final two innings.

It was Whitewater's first game since taking part in the Shaw Invitational last weekend. Whitewater went 3-2 in the tournament, defeating Morgan County 6-1, Northside, Columbus 4-0 and Stockbridge 9-0.

Its two losses came against Mill Creek, 6-0, and Greenbrier, 3-2.
