The Southern Crescent Chorale has been holding auditions for its second annual performance of “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” a one hour opera sung in English.

Composed by Gian-Carlo Menotti, “Amahl and the Night Visitors” was written for television and audiences for more than two generations have been profoundly moved by the story of Amahl, the crippled shepherd boy, and the visit of the three Magi on their way to Bethlehem to visit the Christ child. The cast includes Amahl, his mother, the three kings, and a servant. There will be auditions for all the soloists, and accompaniment would be piano only for this performance.

Auditions will be held at Fayette County High School chorus room for the roles of Amahl (boy soprano of about 12 years), Three Kings (a tenor, a baritone & a bass), Servant (a bass), Page (a baritone), Chorus of Shepherds and a Dancer. The final audition will be held Thursday, Sept. 13 from 7-9 p.m.

For additional information or to reserve an audition appointment time, please call 770-716-1231. Soloists should be well trained singers with performing experience and need to be prepared to sing an operatic aria or art song for the audition. Bring a résumé and headshot if available.

There will be four performances of “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” Nov. 15-18. A performance during the school day for elementary students will take place on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 9:30 a.m. Performances for the public are Nov. 16 and 17 at 8 p.m. and a matinee Nov.18 at 3 p.m. All performances will be held at Sam’s Auditorium located in Fayetteville, Ga.
