Riverside Military Academy has selected students for the top leadership positions within the Corps of Cadets for the 2007-2008 school year, and a local resident is among those selected.

“Riverside gives young men a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills and take on significant responsibilities at the high school level,” said Col. Guy Gardner, superintendent. “The distinctive preparation they receive at Riverside teaches them skills that enable them to achieve both their personal and collective goals.”

All seniors, these students are responsible for assisting with the supervision and development of the cadets assigned to their units. The students were selected for these positions based on observations of previous year’s performance as well as demonstrated abilities during the academy’s annual leadership camp, held recently.

“One of my goals, since coming to Riverside in 2006, has been to increase cadet leadership responsibility and development,” Gardner said. “We have taken steps to enhance our leadership training program and to increase our expectations of our cadet leadership - instilling the understanding that with higher leadership positions come greater responsibilities. Our success in this effort is reflected in the quality of the students selected for these positions.”

Cadet Capt. Luke Hilliard of Peachtree City, Ga., will lead Golf Company. The son of Buck and Norma Hilliard, he has attended Riverside since 2004.

Riverside Military Academy, located in Gainesville, Ga., is a private all-boys college preparatory boarding and day school serving grades 7-12. Riverside, which is celebrating its centennial this year, serves an enrollment of about 450 students from about 20 different states and 10 different countries each year.
