The city of Senoia could soon get bigger, thanks to an annexation request.

Coweta County Board of Education member and Newnan attorney Mike Sumner asked the City Council Monday night to annex 167 acres at the southeast corner of the Ga. Highway 85 and Ga. Highway 16 intersection. Sumner is acting as the court-appointed guardian for the Roy Tinsley family, who owns the property.

“Part of the land is already in the city, but the family would like the entire property in the city to have access to the city’s services,” Sumner said.

He added the family is talking about developing the property, but no formal plan has yet been approved.

Previously, the land was planned to house a Kroger and other retail establishments, but the plan ran aground after it was determined a portion of the property was contaminated from gas tanks that were previously on the property.

Now that the property has been cleaned up, the family is getting ready to decide on a development plan and wants all the loose ends cleared up for prospective developers.

The City Council unanimously approved the preliminary request for annexation, and sent it to Coweta County for final approval.
