A Peachtree City family lost all its belongings when its house caught fire late Monday afternoon, fire officials said.

The home at 119 Sweetgum had flames showing when the first fire crews arrived on the scene, said Peachtree City Fire Marshall John Dailey. In addition to damaging the home, the fire extended to two vehicles parked in the carport, Dailey said.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but arson has been ruled out as a possibility, Dailey said. The origin of the fire has been identified as the utility room near the carport, but so far the cause of the fire is undetermined, Dailey said.

“It certainly is an accidental fire,” Dailey said.

The family has three children, and there is an effort underway to provide them assistance, Dailey said. Details were unavailable at press time but will be published on www.TheCitizen.com.

One of the homes next door, which was 50 feet away, had its siding melted but no other structural damage, Dailey noted. The fire may have spread so quickly because of the age of the house, which is in an older neighborhood, he said.

Firefighters had the flames under control in about 20 minutes, Dailey noted.
