The Tyrone Planning Commission met Thursday night and handled several matters.Mon, 09/03/2007 - 8:47am

The meeting began with the commission swearing in new commissioner Kathy Winton and was followed by the approval of a conceptual site plan for Lots 9 and 10, Phase VII of the Shamrock Industrial Park. The lots will share a driveway and previous concerns about lighting were addressed. The lighting on the site will now being shielded and directed downwards. Howard Guthrie, speaking on behalf of his son, Joel, asked the commission to allow him to move dirt from the construction site of an indoor soccer center in Fairburn to a vacant lot he owns next to the Waffle House. Instead of stockpiling the 500 yards of dirt, Guthrie stated that he wishes to spread the dirt and re-seed it and added that he would be bringing a conceptual site plan to the town in the coming months. The commission approved, adding that Guthrie would need to provide erosion control documents, a permit from the site he is moving the dirt from and submit a site plan within the next 18 months. The commission approved the landscape plans for The Goddard School and Neighborhood Community Bank and directed staff to draft an ordinance to revise zoning categories to allow churches to meet in established places of assembly. The issue came before the commission because Re/Gen church has asked to be allowed to meet at The Legacy Theatre. Currently, churches can meet in places that are zoned E/I (educational/institutional) but the commission would like to see an ordinance that allows churches to meet in established places of assembly in GC (general commercial) or O/I (office/industrial) zonings. There will be a public hearing on the ordinance in September. login to post comments |
