Lane closures scheduled for I-85

The Georgia Department of Transportation and its contractor, McCarthy Improvement, is advising motorists traveling through South Fulton County and Coweta County on Interstate 85, southbound and northbound, lane closures will be in effect beginning Tuesday, September 4, 2007, and continue through Friday, September 7, 2007.

Southbound and northbound lanes will be closed beginning at various times during day and night time hours. These closures are weather permitting and subject to change.

The locations are between Exit 47 (Bullsboro Road/SR 34) and Exit 61 (State Route 74/Senoia Road) in Coweta and Fulton counties. traffic control devices such as message boards, signs, barrels and cones will be used to alert and direct motorists through the Work Zone. Speed Limits have been reduced and will be strictly enforced.

SINGLE LANE CLOSURE between Exit 51 and Exit 47

TIME: 5 a.m.– 4 p.m.

NORTHBOUND – COWETA COUNTY

SINGLE LANE CLOSURE between Exit 51 and Exit 56

TIME: 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

NORTHBOUND – FULTON COUNTY

Tuesday, September 4, through Friday, September 7, 2007

DOUBLE LANE CLOSURE between Exit 56 and Exit 61

TIME: 9 p.m.– 5 a.m.

Scheduled work is continuing to replace the existing road surface from Exit 47 in Coweta County to the intersection of Interstate 85 and State Route 74 in Fulton County. This project extends in both north and south bound directions with the Fulton County portion expected to be completed March 31, 2009.

DOT officials said while traffic interruptions are not welcomed, but they are necessary to improve our roadways for both construction and maintenance.

Motorists are encouraged to use the services provided by GDOT’s Transportation Management Center by phoning (404) 635-6800. Operators are on duty 24/7 to provide traffic information, answer questions and alert motorists to any traffic interruption that may occur. Motorists can also check our website at www.dot.state.ga.us or www.georgia-navigator.com for construction alerts, accidents and other traffic interruptions.

In addition, local media outlets will be updated regularly to assist in communicating traffic interruptions as well.
