What was to have been a three-story bank and office building on Fayetteville’s west side shrunk by one-third Tuesday night.

Fayetteville Planning & Zoning Commission approved several changes to the gateway office project located on Ga. Highway 54 West where Stonewall and Lanier split.

Citing economic reasons for the proposed change, McWhirter Realty Partners representative Josh Mudd sought to reduce the number of floors at the Main Street Office Center from three to two and to reduce the square footage from 39,000 square feet to 31,000.

Also approved was a reduction in the number of parking spaces from 155 to 122.

Mudd said work at the site will begin in September.
