SPLOST priorities: Where is that Corinth Rd. light?Tue, 08/28/2007 - 3:53pm

I attended all public forum events regarding the passage of the current SPLOST revenues. At each event the county commissioners provided detailed maps along with an itemized list of highway projects the funds gathered would finance. Listed near the top were improved intersections along with stoplights at each end of Corinth Road in unincorporated Fayette County. Corinth Road is used as a viaduct between Ga. Highway 85 North and Ga. Highway 54 East. Skirting the edge of Clayton County, Corinth Road is the route of school buses from both Clayton and Fayette counties. Four subdivisions in the Fayette County portion have entrances onto Corinth Road and four subdivisions on the Clayton County section have entrances onto Corinth. The road is well-traveled but really not convenient because of the intersections. On any given morning the wait time to enter Hwy. 54 East from Corinth Road will last more than 10 minutes. The stoplight has not been installed as of yet. The wait time at the Hwy. 85 intersection is even longer. The stoplight has not been installed as of yet in that location either. I watch with interest the improvements for the intersection of hwy. 54 East and McElroy Road. Did Corinth’s promised stoplights transfer locations? Were they deemed not necessary? Come wait with me any morning while I sit at the intersection trying to turn onto Hwy. 54 at Corinth Road. Travel the road on your own. Does someone have to be killed in an accident while trying to make their turn? How many accidents does it take before a stoplight is installed? Where’s the light? When’s it coming? Is it coming? Has it been sent somewhere else? Does anyone know? If someone knows the answers let me know. Tom Lunsford Fayette County, Ga. login to post comments |
