Manage growth, run open town government

I’ve had the pleasure of living in Fayette County since 1986, including more than seven years in Tyrone. My family and I love this town and it would be my honor to serve as Tyrone town councilman to ensure the quality of life that we enjoy.

The next four to six years is the most important time in Tyrone’s history. The secret is out that this is a great place to live and work, so we must manage growth in a way that will maintain what we all love about our Tyrone.

• I guarantee open and honest government. There is no room for compromise when it comes to the law and ethical standards.

• Growth will be managed responsibly to ensure it does not place too much burden on our infrastructure. While the subject of growth is a very controversial one, hopefully we can all agree that the council and staff must work in harmony to run smoothly, efficiently and in accordance with the will of the people.

• Shamrock Park will be preserved, and its beauty improved, so as to maximize its potential as a town center of citizen activity.

• I will not support any ordinance before confirming its constitutionality. Governments across the country have shown a blatant disregard for private property rights for the sake of financial gain. You have my word that I will always stand up for the private property owner.

• I will not support additional sewer contracts unless a legitimate case can be made that it is necessary for our town to operate efficiently.

• I will be an advocate for our recreation department. In addition to coaching youth soccer and baseball, I’m proud to have three sons involved in Tyrone sports and I consider it an important part of our town’s quality of life.

• I will make every effort to work with our neighboring city and county governments to ensure a cordial working relationship. It is important that the members of our town council are good representatives of Tyrone and stand up for what is in our best interests while maintaining respect for other elected officials.

• When making decisions about zoning, I will always consider the impact they will have on our schools. With three sons at Tyrone Elementary, I confess to having a special interest in this area.

When my wife Cheryl and I moved here in 2000 from Peachtree City, we came to a town that was conducive to our way of life. We knew Tyrone would be a great place for our children, Connor, Lawson, and Langdon, to grow up.

I am proud to currently serve on the Tyrone Elementary School Council and represent the school on the Community Advisory Committee for elementary school redistricting. I am a former chairman of the Fayette County Republican Party and 1999 graduate of the Coverdell Leadership Institute.

I am committed to the prosperity of this town and I sincerely hope you will support me in my candidacy for Tyrone Town Council, Post 2. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at ericdsci@bellsouth.net or 770-486-8787.
