Ryan Thwaits, a seventh-grade student at J.C. Booth Middle School, was presented with a certificate Nov. 4 by Principal Ted Lombard for being a People to People Student Ambassador for the United States for the second consecutive year.

The People to People Ambassador Programs were started in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower who believed that individual people can make a difference. The programs bring people from different cultures together to socialize with one another and learn about cultures from around the world.

Thwaits has traveled to Western Canada, Australia and New Zealand with a delegation of about 40 other Georgia middle-school students. Next summer, he will travel to London and Paris. Before leaving, he will meet with his delegation to plan for the three-week Ambassadorship abroad.

Students in this program gain experience interacting with people from other countries, develop effective communication skills, and see the world in a new light.
