The Georgia School Counselors Association (GSCA) has selected Amor Kok (special education) as Georgia’s Multilevel Counselor of the Year.

As a state counselor of the year winner, Kok is automatically qualified to compete for the same award at the national level. The Fayette School Counselors Association previously named Kok Multilevel Counselor of the Year for Fayette County.

“Your credentials stood out from the others under very close scrutiny. You have earned much gratitude for your efforts on behalf of Georgia’s children, who are certainly better off for having been touched by your commitment and dedication to your profession,” says Barbara Strickland, professional recognition chair for GSCA, in a congratulatory letter to Kok.

In order to be selected for the award, a nominee must receive high marks pertaining to the following criteria: responsibilities for guidance program innovations or further development of programs aligning with the American School Counselors Association National Model to support the career, personal/social and academic development of students; demonstration of leadership, advocacy and collaboration in his/her work and promote equity and access to opportunities and rigorous educational experiences for all students to maximize student achievement; demonstrate collaboration with stakeholders; performance of outstanding service to the school or community; participation in professional counseling organizations and demonstration of personal/professional qualities.

Kok will be recognized by GSCA during its annual awards ceremony and luncheon on November 20 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Downtown.
