A Fayetteville man is celebrating a quarter-million dollar win. Yongsang Yi, 44, matched the first five out of six winning numbers in the July 31 Mega Millions drawing and won $250,000.

He bought his winning ticket at Super H Mart in Riverdale. Winning numbers from the July 31 Mega Millions drawing were: 5-18-37-39-43 and the Mega Ball was 42.

Yi’s wife, Seonhwa, had purchased a Mega Millions ticket when she decided to check his set of lucky numbers from the July 31 drawing.

She called and told me that I’d won,” said Yi, an Army chief warrant officer. “I didn’t believe her, and it still hasn’t sunk in yet.”

This fall, Yi will depart for his second tour of duty in the Middle East. He had recently returned from a year in Baghdad and will spend four months in Kuwait. A father of four, Yi said he plans to pay off his home mortgage.

As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
