How local RINOs can prove their GOP tag: Massive deficit spendingTue, 08/14/2007 - 3:52pm

A recent letter writer complained that our county commissioners are RINOs (Republican In Name Only). As evidence she complained that they were firing department heads that disagreed with them and insinuated that attorneys had been fired simply for political reasons. Of course firing department heads and attorneys for political reasons would never be done by real Republicans, especially if they were attorneys general. Next she complained that a replacement might be hired on the basis of being a commissioner’s buddy. Naturally, real Republicans would not do this and even if they did, I’m sure the buddy would do “a heckuva job.” Then came the startling accusation that the commissioners might be raising taxes, something no real Republican would do. Didn’t we read their lips when they pledged not to? The writer then castigated one of our elected officials for holding an office that she deemed “way over his head.” For the life of me I cannot think of a single real Republican who might be holding an office way over his head. Not even including those at the national level. We have serious issues facing our county commissioners including annexations, expansion of TDK and several bond issues, just to name a few. What would the letter writer have the commissioners do to prove they are real Republicans? Suspend habeas corpus? Implement an illegal wiretapping program? Invade Savannah? If so, her expectations are totally unrealistic as these actions can only be carried out by real Republicans at the national level. However, after much deliberation, I have come up with a way for our local Republicans to prove they are real Republicans and not RINOs. I urge them to henceforth set out on a program of massive deficit spending. Jeff Carter Peachtree City, Ga. [Carter is the son of former President Jimmy Carter.] login to post comments |
