Palmetto City Council Aug. 6 turned down a proposed zoning ordinance amendment to establish a residential active adult district.

While all on the council agreed that such as zoning designation was needed, a majority said language protecting age 55 and older developments was not in place.

Council members also expressed concerns over further high density developments.
