Medical alley along Ga. Highway 54 West continued its expansion Aug. 2 with approval by Fayetteville City Council of the annexation and rezoning of an existing facility and one proposed for medical office use.

Now inside Fayetteville city limits is the 46,000 square-foot Dogwood Forest Assisted Living facility located at 1294 Hwy. 54 West. The 4.87-acre property was zoned O-I (Office Institutional) in the county and had requested MO (Medical Office) zoning in the city. The annexation will allow the facility to connect to the city’s sewer system.

The other annexation and rezoning request approved by the council concerned a 3.85-acre site located at 1231 Hwy. 54 West. Applicant Group VI intends to construct a three-story, 40,000 square-foot medical office building on the property. The medical office building is expected to serve as tenant space for professional practices wanting to locate near Piedmont Fayette Hospital.

Like Dogwood Forest, the Group VI site had been zoned O-I in the county and received a MO designation in the city. Both properties were reviewed and recommended for annexation by the Highway 54/Hospital Study Area Task Force.
