A Fayetteville woman was arrested Sunday after chasing her husband out of their Knight Way apartment with a knife and stabbing his tire after he locked himself in his vehicle.

Twenty-eight-year-old Shalonda Belyue was charged with aggravated assault, cruelty to a child and criminal trespass in the incident, according to Fayetteville Police spokesperson Lt. Beverly Trainor.

Belyue’s husband told officers he was asleep on the couch when she woke him. An argument over another woman ensued as Belyue held a knife, police reports said. The man told officers he fled the apartment to get away from her, running to his car a locking himself inside, Trainor said. Belyue followed him to the vehicle, stabbing the knife into one of the tires and then returned to the apartment, reports said.

Officers had responded to Weatherly Walk Apartments at 7:45 p.m. to a report of a woman chasing a man with a knife, reports said. They arrived to find the man standing in a breezeway, talking on his cell phone, said Trainor.

At the apartment, Belyue was interviewed, telling officers the knife was in the sink. She was arrested after her 10-year-old son corroborated his stepfather’s story about the argument, Trainor said.
