Gerald Royce Chaney, 86, Fayetteville, formerly of Hapeville, died July 28, 2007. He was born Nov. 16, 1920, the last of seven children born to Dee and Lizzie Chaney, in Emhouse, Texas. While on flight training at Dobbins Naval Air Station he met a southern belle on a blind date and knew his life would forever be connected to the Atlanta area. He was a naval aviator in World War II and upon discharge worked at Delta Air Lines for 36 years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, sports enthusiast and master gardener. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Fayetteville Overton Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Peggy Smith Chaney, Fayetteville; sons, Darryl and Gay Chaney, and Dale and June Chaney, all of Fayetteville; a daughter, Doe and John Evans, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Christi Akins, Dee Chaney, Camille and Colin Evans, Brad Chaney, and Kate McCain; and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Fayetteville First Baptist homebound meals program or Southwest Christian Care, 7225 Lester Rd., Union City, GA 30291. Carl J.
