The evening of August 6 at Duncan Park in Fairburn will be a time for families to enjoy food, activities for the kids and receive information on a variety of personal and family safety topics. Now in its second year in Fairburn, National Night Out provides a way for law enforcement and the community to share ideas in a family-fun environment.

Fairburn Police is planning an event full of crime prevention techniques, drug awareness, neighborhood watch information and fire safety tips to help strengthen community spirit and build stronger police-community partnerships, said Chief Charles Long.

“This will be a good time for children, adults and the community to have an evening of food and fun and it will be a good opportunity for the community to meet our officers. So everyone come by, eat a hot dog and a hamburger, enjoy the activities for the kids and just have a good time,” said Long. “And along with all the fun, we also want to send a message to criminals that our neighborhoods are organized.”

The event provides a good way for residents to get to know police officers and let them know what is important in their neighborhoods, Long said.

The National Night Out at Duncan Park will run from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Duncan Park is located on Rivertown Road.

National Night Out is a nationwide effort to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and support for law enforcement. Now in its 25th year, National Night Out in 2006 saw participation in more than 10,000 cities in all 50 states.
