Would give second option to current service with Fairburn

Tyrone officials have asked Peachtree City sewer officials if it is possible to hook up to Peachtree City’s sewer system for the treatment of up to 500,000 gallons a day of sewage, according to Larry Turner, general manager of the Peachtree City Water and Sewer Authority.

Currently Tyrone links with the city of Fairburn for sewer service. Fairburn officials hope to expand its sewer treatment capacity with Fulton County and have told Tyrone they will include the town’s request in 2008, said Tyrone Town Manager Barry Amos.

The Tyrone link to the Peachtree City system will be discussed at a WASA meeting Monday night at 6:30 p.m.

Turner said WASA has been having discussions with Tyrone officials on the matter.

Amos said the town council has tasked staff with exploring the options of contracting with other jurisdictions for sewer service. To make a good decision, council needs to know the cost and feasibility of their options, Amos said.

The Peachtree City Council will have the final say on whether or not Tyrone would be allowed to hook up to the sewer system.

If a deal is approved, Tyrone would have to pay all the infrastructure costs associated with connecting to Peachtree City’s sewer system, Turner said.
