Fayetteville Police will join thousands of law enforcement agencies across America Tuesday night for the observance of National Night Out, an annual event designed to provide communities with relevant information and strengthen community understanding of law enforcement.

“This event is one more way to build participation with the community. We hope everyone will come out and participate,” said Chief Steve Heaton.

The event will be held at Fayetteville Police Department, located at 760 Jimmie Mayfield Boulevard, from 6-8 p.m.

Police officers and firefighters will be available to talk with citizens about safety issues and provide fingerprinting and identification kits for kids. Police cars, special police vehicles and fire Trucks will also be on display for viewing.

National Night Out (NNO) is a unique crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.

NNO is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are aware.

Now in its 25th year, National Night Out in 2006 saw participation in more than 10,000 cities in all 50 states.
