The relatively new Fayette County Commission is putting its own unique stamp on how it conducts business.

For years, the County Commission has held its regular retreat at Aberdeen Woods Conference Center in Peachtree City and a citizen would occasionally wander in to see what the board was discussing.

But this year, if you want to see what hot topics are being discussed, you’ll have to get up early and fill your tank with gas because the County Commission has decided to take its act on the road 70 miles southwest to Callaway Gardens Aug. 8.

Executive Assistant Carol Chandler confirmed the board was headed out of town for its retreat and said they will leave for Callaway Aug. 7 and have dinner together as a group at the resort. The all-day retreat will start at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the Sourwood conference room at a new building at the leafy resort.

Chandler said the retreat is costing the county $2,000, which is about the same as the bill for Aberdeen in Peachtree City. She said the county is also planning another retreat this fall with department heads that could be held at Serenbe in south Fulton County.

Previously, the board staged one retreat with the County Commission and department heads.
