Rivals hand each other non-region lossesTue, 12/13/2005 - 3:41pm

It’s not every weekend where two county rivals match up and yet, this past Saturday had McIntosh travel to Starr’s Mill and Sandy Creek travel to Fayette County. Starr’s Mill swept the McIntosh boys and girls, while Sandy Creek split with Fayette County, as the girls won and the boys lost.
The Lady Patriots defeated the Lady Tigers 45-38. Using strong play at all the positions, Sandy Creek was able to hold off Fayette County’s charge. The Lady Tigers were led by Tessah Holt’s 14 points and Simone Heath, who added eight points, while Sandy Creek’s Morganne Campbell scored 20. The Fayette County boys won 67-54 with Jeremiah Enloe’s 19 points leading the way. Sandy Creek had two players, Chris James and Gavin Montgomery, score 13 points each. Across town, Starr’s Mill’s girls defeated the Lady Chiefs 57-25. The Lady Panther defense held McIntosh to eight points in the first half and maintained their lead the rest of the way. Kirstin Massmann led Starr’s Mill with 11 points. The Starr’s Mill boys won 72-34 with Mark Harris scoring 20 points for the Panthers. Coach Jason Eisele stated that the team shot and rebounded poorly as well. Landmark Christian’s boys picked up their first win of the season on Saturday, beating Greenforest Christian 55-53 in two overtimes. The War Eagles had three players in double digits; Stoney Hill with 16, Matt Thornton with 14 and Levi Throckmorton with 12. The Landmark girls also won their game against Greenforest Christian, 63-29. Kelsey Knapp had 22 points and Christian Honeycutt had 21 points for the Lady War Eagles. Our Lady of Mercy met Atlanta International on Saturday night and the Lady Bobcats lost 33-31 in overtime. Raven Moore led the Lady Bobcats with 13 points in the loss. In games on Friday night, Our Lady of Mercy’s girls defeated Whitewater 60-58 with Mercy being led by 24 points and 11 rebounds from Moore and the Lady Wildcats being led by 29 points from Jackie Gittens. The Whitewater boys defeated the Bobcats 75-48. Zach Scurry led the Wildcats with 18 points, 12 rebounds and eight steals. Chris Asbury and J.T. Marrtin each had 11 points and Stephen Sargent had eight ponts, 11 rebounds and eight blocks. In other games on Friday, McIntosh’s boys and girls both fell to Lithia Springs. The Lady Chiefs lost to Lithia Springs 45-38. The boys lost 68-46 after only trailing by three points at the half. “Lithia Springs is the most talented and disciplined team that we have seen so far this year, and I was encouraged to see our guys battle with them for a while,” said Eisele. Fayette County’s girls lost to Newnan 43-34 with Holt and Chasity Welch each scoring eight points. The boys lost 77-67. Chris Pettaway led the Tigers with 18 points and Channing Welch added 17 points. login to post comments |
