Now that Senoia has received the OK from state officials for an additional two million gallons of capacity per day, the city’s leaders will try and determine the best way to utilize the capacity.

In a rare morning workshop today at 10 a.m., the City Council begins the decision process on whether the city should expand its current land application system on Andrews Parkway or build a new treatment plant near the Fayette-Coweta border, just off Ga. Highway 85.

The city’s additional capacity could provide the necessary one million gallons per day for the proposed McIntosh Village development near Sharpsburg, but first a deal must be brokered between the city and Coweta County, since the huge development is located in unincorporated Coweta County.

The other item on today’s agenda is discussion of Special Purpose Local Option sales Tax projects. Mayor Robert Belisle has stated at earlier City Council meeting that the city needs to focus on projects that would “give something back to the community,” and help spur economic development.

Prior to the workshop, the City Council will hold a public hearing on the millage rate. While the city’s rate will remain the same as last year’s, the hearing is necessary because it fits the state definition of a tax increase, since the city is not rolling back the rate to account for reassessments.
