Your Family Doctor open to all agesThu, 07/26/2007 - 7:49am
By: Andrew Widener
It has been the dream of Dr. Jeffrey Sherman to open his own medical practice. In March of this year, a year and a half after he realized this dream, Dr. Sherman moved his practice, Your Family Doctor, into its new location at the Starr’s Mill Professional Center on Highway 74 near the Starr’s Mill school complex. Establishing a family-oriented setting where the doctor gets to know the patient and his family has been Dr. Sherman’s goal throughout his medical career, and it has come to fruition in this new location. Dr. Sherman, 39, insists on being accessible to his patients, taking precious time with each, and listening to their concerns. His wife Beth said this kind of care was “very unusual these days,” and Matt Harrison, the office manager, said it was “something that has been lost in the healthcare industry.” Mrs. Sherman added that her husband enjoys being his own boss so he can spend as much time as he likes with the patients. Your Family Doctor’s staff, which comprises Harrison, a nurse, and two receptionists, utilized technology to keep communication between the doctor and his patients wide open. One can make appointments and renew prescriptions on the internet, and Dr. Sherman stays available through email. Harrison, who has worked with Dr. Sherman for about a year and a half and helped coordinate the construction of his office, said the response to this personal approach has been “great” and “overwhelming.” Dr. Sherman’s interest in medicine dates to his father’s days as a veterinarian. The difference between the son’s aspirations have been his desire to talk to and hear back from his patients. Having grown up in suburban New Jersey, Dr. Sherman did his undergraduate work at Emory University, where in the first week of classes he met his wife. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia but returned to Georgia to do his residency at Georgia Baptist Family Practice. The Shermans, with their two young daughters, have lived in Peachtree City for 14 years. Your Family Doctor is located in the Starr’s Mill Professional Center at 1280 Highway 74 South. Its business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The office can be reached at 770-631-1344. login to post comments |
