Southwest Christian Care honors Jim BeauchampThu, 07/26/2007 - 7:39am
By: Michael Boylan
Who is the only person to wear a baseball uniform in all three of Atlanta’s professional ballparks – Ponce de Leon, Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, and Turner Field? Who was the first Astro to hit a home run out of the Houston Astrodome? Who is the only major league player to hit two home runs on his birthday? Jim Beauchamp, of course! After playing professional baseball for seventeen years with the Cardinals, Astros, Braves, Reds, and Mets, Jim served as outfield coordinator for the entire Braves minor league system. Southwest Christian Care will honor Jim at their 15th Annual Benefit Dinner and Auction Gala with the 2007 Servant Leadership Award. Jim has been the celebrity sponsor of the Jim Beauchamp Celebrity Golf Classic for the past fourteen years, raising over $800,000 for the ministry. Thanks to Jim, celebrities like Jeff Francouer, Chipper Jones, Phil Niekro, Brian McCann, Kyle Davies, Terry Pendleton and many more have participated in the tournament to help raise funds for Southwest Christian Care. Jim has spent his entire life giving to others on the field and off. He became involved with Southwest Christian Care after touring the hospice facility and seeing the quality of care the patients were receiving. Jim also has a special place in his heart for the children served by Hope House Children’s Respite Center, a service area of Southwest Christian Care. Hope House provides a break for parents of medically fragile children who are stressed and exhausted from providing care 24 hours a day. “Jim is always thinking of others and how he can help out,” Cox says. “He is one of our most loved employees, and that spirit and drive we see in him is what makes him so special.” The 15th Annual Benefit Dinner and Auction Gala will be held at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park on August 10 at 7:00 p.m. The featured guest speaker will be Comedian Jeff Allen.
