Peachtree City native Reed Sorenson won his third Busch Series race ever on Saturday at the Busch Gateway 250 at Gateway International Speedway. Sorenson started the race in second place, led for 95 of 200 laps and won by two seconds over Scott Wimmer.

It was Sorenson’s first win and second top-five finish at the speedway.

The week got off to a rollicking start for Sorenson and his teammates, as they took in a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field and sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch. Sorenson also threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the game.
In the USG Sheetrock 400 on the previous Sunday, a NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race, Sorenson qualified in 22nd place and finished 12th overall. Sorenson and the Target team are now 28th in the overall standings.

“It was a good day for the Target team. We had a solid top-15 car all weekend and this is definitely the kind of finish we need after the last few races,” Sorenson said after the race. “I thought we would be able to move up in the closing laps by taking four at the end, but we kept getting caught behind lapped cars on the restarts. Still, it was a good day and I’m looking forward to Indy in a couple of weeks.”
The race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will take place Sunday, July 29.
