Retail still planned for Hwy.74Mon, 07/23/2007 - 8:51am
By: Ben Nelms
The announcement came in October 2005 that Fairburn was closing in on negotiations that would locate nearly one million square feet of retail space on 110 acres along the east side of Ga. Highway 74 between Milam Road and I-85. The development has not materialized, but Fairburn City Administrator Jim Williams is anything but concerned. Williams said the city was not upset or concerned about the delay. “The market right now is terrible but it should break loose in the not too distant future,” he said. “ Williams said the original project envisioned in late 2005 has essentially gone away. That property, totaling approximately 100 acres, is now being accumulated by another developer, he said. “The property should include most of what Landmark Properties put together,” Williams said. “And they’ve included some new property that wasn’t included before. I think the location in Hwy. 74 is one of the best in the metro area.” Regardless the developer, Fairburn has long-maintained that specifics aspects of the project will become certainties. One of those is the construction of Harris Road Extension, the continuation of Harris Road from Plantation Road to Hwy. 74. Others include the establishment of interparcel roads and limited curb cuts on both sides of Hwy. 74 between I-85 and Milam Road. login to post comments |
